13 Indian players shortlisted for SA20 auctions

As many as 13 Indian players have registered for the SA20 auction, scheduled to take place on September 9. As mandated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all of them are either retired or no longer play for India or in the IPL.

According to Cricbuzz, the list of shortlisted players includes the likes of Piyush Chawla, Siddharth Kaul and Ankit Rajpoot. They are among 784 players who have signed up for the event.

Base Price & Wild Card

All Indian players carry a base price of 200,000 Rand. However, Piyush Chawla is the only exception, with a reserve price of 1,000,000 Rand. The six franchises have a combined purse of USD 7.4 million. A total of 84 slots will be up for grabs at the Johannesburg auction.

For Season 4, SA20 has introduced a Wildcard option (one player per team, overseas or South African). The Wildcard player’s salary will be outside the salary cap.

Dinesh Karthik – First Indian in SA20

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was the first Indian cricketer to take part in SA20. After drawing curtains on his international career and then in IPL, he represented the Paarl Royals in the third season of the South African league.

  2. Siddharth Kaul (Punjab)
  3. Ankit Rajpoot (UPCA)

Pakistani Players in the Mix

40 Pakistani players have thrown their hats in the ring. Azam Khan, Imam-ul-Haq, Abrar Ahmed, and Saim Ayub are some familiar names who have registered in the auction. Interestingly, despite the presence of these players, the six SA20 franchises — MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals, and Pretoria Capitals — all owned by Indian businessmen, primarily IPL franchise owners, have not included a single Pakistani cricketer in their squads across the first three seasons of the league.
