Nicholas Pooran is playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter was in action on Wednesday (August 20) against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, but could only manage to score 10 runs from 14 balls after coming out to bat at No. 3 in the 168-run chase.

He was sent back to the pavilion by out-of-favour West Indies all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall. On the first ball of the 10th over of the Trinbago Knight Riders innings, Pooran stepped out to play a big shot down the ground, but he failed to connect with the ball and was stumped out by Jewel Andrew.

After getting out in the crucial stage of the match, the TKR captain lost his cool and was seen smashing the pitch repeatedly in anger. The clip of Pooran’s angry reaction was shared by CPL’s official X handle, and within no time it went viral on the internet.

Here’s a look:

For Trinbago Knight Riders, former West Indies all-rounder and captain Kieron Pollard top-scored in the run chase, but his 43-run knock from 28 balls was not enough to help the Pooran-led side secure a win.

For Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Obed McCoy picked up four wickets for 39 runs in four overs, and one TKR batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Cornwall and Shakib Al Hasan.

Earlier in the first half of the match, Fabian Allen scored 45 runs from 20 balls as a No. 7 batter and added 69 runs for the sixth wicket with captain Imad Wasim, who made an unbeaten 39 runs from 27 balls, to help the hosts post a total of 167/6 in 20 overs.

For TKR, Usman Tariq and Nathan Edwards picked up two wickets each, and one Antigua and Barbuda Falcons batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Akeal Hosein and Mohammad Amir.

Trinbago Knight Riders kicked off their CPL 2025 campaign with a 12-run win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 17. In that match, Colin Munro scored 120 runs as an opening batter. The Nicholas Pooran-led side will next take the field on Saturday (August 23) against Saint Lucia Kings at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
