ChatGPT users in India are facing issues with the AI chatbot app from OpenAI on Wednesday afternoon. The outage has been confirmed via multiple reports on Downdetector and the company itself has acknowledged the issue, as ‘elevated error rate with ChatGPT’ being mentioned on the OpenAI status page.

Many ChatGPT users have shared their frustration with delayed responses from the AI chatbot, while some of them are not able to access the platform altogether.

The ChatGPT outage reports started around 11:30 AM IST on August 20, 2025 and have escalated with over four hundred reports cited on the outage tracker platform. The majority of these complaints are related to the ChatGPT app. OpenAI has identified and is monitoring the error issues faced by ChatGPT and as per the latest update, it is working on implementing another mitigation.
