Oracle has laid off nearly 10% of its workforce in India amid restructuring. This follows a partnership with OpenAI and talks with Trump.

Oracle Layoffs 2025
Oracle, one of the world’s largest software firms, has laid off close to 10% of its workforce in India, marking one of its biggest rounds of job cuts in the country, according to India Today report. The restructuring comes even as the company recently announced a landmark partnership with OpenAI and held high-level discussions with US President Donald Trump.
Oracle’s move adds to the growing list of global tech giants streamlining their operations this year. From Microsoft to Google and Amazon, several major firms have announced layoffs citing cost pressures, a shift in business priorities, and increasing investment in artificial intelligence.
In a June filing, the company said it periodically adjusts its workforce for strategic changes, reorganisations, or performance reasons. “These types of restructurings have resulted, and may in the future result, in increased restructuring costs and temporarily reduced productivity while employees adjust,” the filing noted.
Oracle has long relied on India as a key talent hub, employing nearly 28,824 people across major cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Noida, and Kolkata. But with close to one in ten staff now facing job cuts, the impact is significant, reports Data Centre Dynamics. The layoffs are said to be concentrated in functions such as software development, cloud services, and customer support.
Oracle and OpenAI have entered an agreement to develop 4.5 gigawatts of additional Stargate data center capacity in the U.S. This investment will create new jobs, accelerate America’s reindustrialization, and help advance U.S. AI leadership. It also marks a major milestone for Stargate, OpenAI’s AI infrastructure platform and long-term vision to deliver the benefits of AI to everyone.
