IndiGo said rains have led to operational challenges that resulted in delays in both departures and arrivals. It has asked people to check their flight status and expressed regret over the inconvenience.
“With Mumbai drenched in heavy showers, several routes to the airport are witnessing waterlogging and sluggish traffic. This has, in turn, led to operational challenges, with delays in both departures and arrivals and we truly regret the inconvenience this may cause. If you’re scheduled to travel, we recommend leaving a little earlier and keeping an eye on your flight status via our app or website. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to keep operations steady. Your safety, comfort, and peace of mind remain our priority, and we deeply value your patience and understanding,” the airline said in a statement.
Akasa Air, too, issued an advisory. “Due to heavy rainfall in certain parts of Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa, Pune, and Guwahati, we anticipate slow-moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport. To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight. Please check your flight status. We realise that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your understanding,” it said in a post on X.
On August 18, there were 10 go-arounds at the Mumbai airport and an IndiGo flight was diverted to Surat.
Mumbai witnessed severe inundation in low-lying areas, delayed local train services and traffic snarls at various places on Tuesday morning as there was no respite from heavy rains in the metropolis and neighbouring areas.
Several parts of the city, including Borivali, Andheri, Sion, Dadar and Chembur, witnessed intense downpour through the night and the rain continued in the morning as well, resulting in water-logging in low-lying areas, including Gandhi Market.
As per civic officials, the island city recorded more rain compared to suburbs between 5 am and 6 am on Tuesday.
