Mumbai’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has initiated a preliminary enquiry (PE) into an alleged accounting lapse at IndusInd Bank, following a complaint from the lender’s current management.
EOW told CNBC TV-18 that it has recorded statements from staff members associated with the offices of the bank’s former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and former Deputy CFO. The agency added that IndusInd Bank Managing Director and CEO Sumant Kathpalia, along with senior executive Arun Khurana, will be summoned in due course to record their statements.
Officials clarified that the action is a PE, not a First Information Report (FIR). A preliminary enquiry is undertaken to determine whether a case is cognisable before registering an FIR. During this stage, the agency is empowered to summon individuals and record their testimony.
The EOW also indicated that the former CFO and former Deputy CFO could be called in as part of the ongoing enquiry.
