India’s premier fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) national selectors that he’d be available for selection for the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE. According to The Indian Express, Bumrah confirmed his availability ‘a few days’ ago, allaying all fears of a long-term injury or fitness issues after he was released early from India’s squad during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Bumrah featured in three of the five Tests in the series as part of his workload management program set in congruence with the BCCI’s medical staff. He missed out on the final game despite the series being on the line as the team decided against taking a risk, though his release on the second day of the game caused some stir among fans. A few unsubstantiated reports even claimed that Bumrah had suffered a new injury.

“Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week,” the newspaper report quoted a source as saying.

The BCCI selectors will convene in Mumbai on August 19 to pick India’s squad for the T20 tournament. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar is expected to address a press conference after the meeting.

Bumrah’s return would be a huge boost for the Men in Blue. His last T20I was the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, where his 2/18 won India the title.

He was rested for all of India’s next rubbers in the format. He’s arguably the best pacer in this format, with 89 wickets in 70 matches at a ridiculous average of 17.74 and an economy rate of 6.28.

No camp in Bengaluru

The report added that the BCCI will not host any pre-tournament camp for the series — some preparation is necessary as India haven’t played any T20Is in months — and instead the team will travel to the Middle-East early to acclimatize to the conditions.

“Instead of having a camp here, the team will fly three-four days early so that they can get decent practice before the tournament starts,” the newspaper’s source said.
