Team India’s star fast bowler Akash Deep will not play in the Duleep Trophy, and stepping into his shoes is Assam’s Mukhtar Hussain, a promising fast bowler whose main weapons are accurate line, length and speed.
The Duleep Trophy will be held in Bengaluru from August 28 to September 11. Akash Deep, the 28-year-old fast bowler from Bihar, represents Bengal in domestic cricket. The bowler had some fitness-related problems during the recent India-England Test series, due to which he will not be able to play in the 6-team Duleep Trophy tournament.
Akash Deep played three Tests for India in England and took 13 wickets. In domestic cricket, he was included in the East Zone team last week, but now Assam fast bowler Mukhtar Hussain has been included in the team in his place.
Meet Mukhtar Hussain: The Replacement
Mukhtar Hussain has played 40 first-class matches so far and has dismissed 132 batters. Along with this, Mukhtar has also scored 580 runs in 61 innings. He bowls at a speed of 140 kilometres per hour. Born on January 11, 1999, right-handed Mukhtar Hussain plays for home state Assam in all three formats.
In the absence of Akash Deep, Mohammed Shami will lead the bowling attack for the team captained by Ishan Kishan. And from the other end, Bengal fast bowler Mukesh Kumar will show his talent in bowling.
Akash Deep’s Test Record
Akash Deep made his Test debut for India against England on February 23, 2024 in Ranchi. He took three wickets in the first innings. He has played a total of 10 Test matches so far and has dismissed 28 batters. Out of his 28 wickets, 10 came in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy alone, which was played from July 2-6 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
In the first innings of the second Test between India and England, Akash Deep took 4 wickets for 88 runs in 20 overs. In the second innings, he dismissed six English batters for 99 runs in 21.1 overs. Ten wickets for 187 runs in 41.1 overs in the Birmingham Test is the best bowling by an Indian bowler in a red-ball match played in England.
