Mumbai Metro-9 Double Decker Line to link Dahisar, Mira-Bhayander to BKC and Colaba: All about it


Mumbai’s urban mobility is set to experience a radical change following the construction of Metro Line 9, a double-decker wonder that will connect Thane, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), and Colaba. The line will go from Dahisar (East) to Mira-Bhayander and beyond.

Initially intended to be an extension of the Red Line (Lines 7/7A), Metro-9 is roughly 11.38 km of elevated track with 10 stations, including Dahisar East, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon (Amar Palace), Kashigaon (Thane district), Sai Baba Nagar, Meditiya Nagar (Deepak Hospital), Shahid Bhagat Singh Garden (Maxus Mall), Subhash Chandra Bose Ground, MBMC Sports Complex and Indralok Station.

With a flyover at the base and the metro running on top, Metro-9’s double-decker bridge design maximises urban space and makes it easier for the Metro to ascend through already crowded corridors.

In addition to Metro 2A (Dahisar West to DN Nagar) and Metro 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East), it will eventually be connected to Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ subterranean). This network effect speeds up commutes by enabling multi-line routes free from traffic jams, even for those who are not directly on Line 9.

Mumbai Metro Line 9 Completion Date

Mumbai Metro Line 9 is currently under construction, with approximately 85% of the project completed. Phase 1 (Dahisar–Kashigaon) is expected to be completed and put into service by the end of 2025, while the full corridor up to Mira-Bhayander is expected by the end of 2026, according to 99 Acres.

With a capacity of 2,352 passengers per train, Mumbai Metro-9 will run eight-coach trains (a shared fleet throughout the Red Line system). By 2031, it is anticipated that 11.12 lakh riders will use Lines 9 and 7A together.

Mumbai Metro Line 9 Fare Details

The Mumbai Metro Line 9 will provide commuters with an affordable mode of transportation. The fare structure for Line 9 is in line with Mumbai Metro’s standard slabs as follows, per the most recent official updates: ₹10 for up to 2 km, ₹ 20 for 2–5 km, ₹ 30 for 5–12 km, ₹ 40 for 12–18 km, and ₹ 50 for 18–24 km.

Once operational, Metro-9 will easily connect to other lines, including Metro 7 and 7A (for access to the airport), Metro 2A, Metro 3, and upcoming corridors like Metro 10 (to Thane) and Metro 13 (to Vasai-Virar), forming a unified network that will serve commuters across Mumbai’s northern and western suburbs.

Significant time savings for passengers are expected: the 75–90 minute drive from Mira-Bhayander to Andheri East might be reduced to about 35–50 minutes using Metro-9 with connecting lines.

Similarly, routes to BKC and Colaba via Metro 7, Metro 2A, or Metro 3 that are now constrained by traffic will significantly improve in speed and dependability.

With a total expenditure of over ₹6,607 crore (for Lines 7A and 9), this enormous project is essential to clearing traffic in Mumbai’s transport system and improving connections for thousands of commuters.
