Shai Hope is the captain of the West Indies’ ODI team, and on Tuesday (August 12) he entered his name in the history books by equalling Brian Lara’s record of most centuries in ODIs as captain of the West Indies. Hope, who is leading the West Indies in the third ODI against Pakistan on Tuesday at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, completed his 18th ODI century in 83 balls.
He has scored five centuries in the 50-over format of the game as the skipper of the two-time ODI World Cup winners.
During his 17-year-long ODI career, Lara played 125 ODIs as captain of the West Indies and scored five centuries, whereas Hope has scored five centuries in just 38 matches as captain.

The overall record of scoring the most ODI centuries as captain is in the name of Ricky Ponting. Ponting played 230 ODIs as captain of the Australian team and scored 22 centuries.
He is followed by Virat Kohli, who scored 21 centuries in 95 ODIs as India captain.

The century on Tuesday in the series decider also helped Hope take third position in the list of batters with the most 100s for the West Indies team. Only Chris Gayle (25) and Lara (19) are ahead of him now.

Hope faced a total of 94 balls for the Men in Maroon on Tuesday at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba and, with the help of 10 fours and 5 sixes, scored 120 runs. His super show with the bat helped the hosts post a total of 294/6 in the series decider after Mohammad Rizwan invited them to bat first.
Hope added 110 runs in just 49 balls for the seventh wicket with Justin Greaves, who made 43 runs from 24 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes.
