Microsoft Lens app has allowed people to scan documents for many years but now you have a new option to install
Microsoft is taking more feature to its Copilot family
Microsoft is pulling the curtains on its own document scanner app that some of you might not even know about. The company has confirmed the news about the app that will stop working for Android and iOS users in a phased manner, starting from September 15.
We have quite a few apps that can scan documents, including WhatsApp these days but it seems Microsoft has decided to go in another direction with its own platform for these features. Microsoft Lens app is giving way to one more Copilot addition, which means more people will be compelled to make the upgrade, unless they are happy with the other free options.
Microsoft Lens Shutting Down: What You Should Know
Microsoft has planned a detailed timeline to end support for the Lens app. The company says from mid-Sept the shutting down process starts. One month later, the app installs will be blocked on both Play Store and App Store.
In November, the company will remove the apps from the app stores. And finally, by December, you will not be able to take new scans, while the older files will be kept in the MyScan folder. Microsoft confirmed that the app will not get new updates or support after December 15, 2025.
Over To You, Copilot
Microsoft is moving one more feature into the Copilot family. Instead of the Lens, the company is advising people to use the scan feature available in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. The benefit of its integration allows you to scan the text and have them copied to Word, or Excel tables and more.
The only issue with this change is that people might need to sign up for a Microsoft 365 account and you can download it for free from App Store and Play Store, where the app already has over 100 crore downloads and a 4.5 rating.
The company is also ending support for Windows 10 platform from October this year, which will make millions of PCs unsafe and prone to security attacks. The company is not offering a free Windows 11 upgrade to the devices that don’t meet its latest security requirements, forcing them to either use their current machine or invest big for a new one.
