The CISF announced Monday that security measures at all airports and Delhi Metro stations had been beefed up. Commuters are advised to arrive at these locations ‘well in advance’ because security checks may take some time.
The Delhi Metro system, connecting Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, is protected by the CISF. The same force also provides security to at least 69 civil airports nationwide.
The announcement is part of a broader, more stringent security measures implemented ahead of the August 15 celebrations, PTI reported.
With the deployment of more officers, stricter luggage inspections, and more rigorous frisking procedures at entry gates, CISF has increased its presence throughout the Delhi Metro network since August 9.
The Metro network is not the only part of the security strategy. With over 10,000 officers, including special commandos and paramilitary units, mobilised by Commissioner SBK Singh, Delhi Police has been conducting constant patrols at major public areas, transportation hubs and markets.
Anti-sabotage exercises, car roadblocks, and surprise flag marches are in progress. There are rooftop sniper positions, CCTV surveillance, facial recognition software, and drone detection grids in place, particularly in the vicinity of the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the country.
Echoing the appeal, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) advised travellers to factor in additional travel time, particularly during peak hours, as these new procedures may cause admission to be delayed, per the Millennium Post.
While cyber teams keep a close eye on Internet platforms for any threats and the transmission of misinformation, airborne activities, such as drones, paragliders, and balloons, are prohibited over Delhi from August 2 to 16 without prior clearance.

“Be vigilant, stay alert and immediately report if any unattended items or suspicious activity is noticed to CISF personnel or Delhi Metro/airport staff,” the CISF stated.
The CISF has advised travellers to be prepared, exercise patience, and adhere to security procedures.
