The Asia Cup 2025 is loading, and ahead of the continental tourney, it has been learned that premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya will undergo a fitness assessment at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The 31-year-old had been a crucial cog in India’s successful campaigns at the T20 World Cup 2025 and Champions Trophy earlier this year. The star all-rounder has been training in Mumbai since mid-July, and the team will be counting on him to win the Asia Cup, which gets underway on September 9.
According to The Times of India, Pandya will go through the assessment procedure in Bengaluru on August 11 and 12. The report further stated that Shreyas Iyer had completed his fitness assessment between July 27 and 29.
Iyer recently led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, just a year after guiding Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title. However, he hasn’t played T20Is since December 2023. It will be interesting to see whether he makes the cut in the upcoming continental tourney.
Meanwhile, captain Suryakumar Yadav will spend another week at the COE to gain full fitness under the watchful eyes of the physios and medical team. He had an outstanding IPL 2025 season, scoring 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians and winning the Most Valuable Player award. He was the second-highest run-scorer of the season, just behind Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans, who made 759 runs.
After Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win, Suryakumar became the full-time T20I captain. Since then, India have won 17 of the 22 matches under his leadership.
Shubman Gill To Be Named Vice Captain
After a promising start to his captaincy career, he is now set to take on a key role in the T20I setup as well. According to RevSportz, Gill is likely to be named India’s T20I vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Gill’s recent IPL performances with the Gujarat Titans have been exceptional — scoring 890 runs at a strike rate of 157.80, 426 at 147.40, and 650 at 155.88 in the last three seasons.
