Kagiso Rabada led South Africa’s bowling attack in the first T20I against the Australian team in Darwin on Sunday (August 10) and picked up two wickets for 29 runs in four overs. He opened his wicket account by dismissing Travis Head (2 runs from 7 balls) on the last ball of his first over and then picked up Australian captain Mitchell Marsh’s wicket on the first ball of his second over. The two wickets in two balls on Sunday helped Rabada take his tally of wickets to 99 for South Africa against Australia in international cricket, which is one more than Allan Donald and Makhaya Ntini’s tally of 98.

During their playing days, Donald made 44 appearances for South Africa against Australia across formats, whereas Ntini played 41 matches, and both of them dismissed 98 Aussie batters each.

Only Dale Steyn now has picked up more wickets for South Africa against Australia than Rabada. Steyn played 49 matches against Australia from 2006 to 2020 and dismissed 127 batters.

Nitini also played one match for the ICC World XI against Australia in 2005 and picked up one wicket, whereas in three ODI matches for the ICC World XI against Australia in 2005, Pollock dismissed two batters.

The overall record of taking the most wickets against Australia in international cricket is in the name of former West Indies pacer Curtly Ambrose and English seamer Stuart Broad. Both of them played 68 matches against the six-time ODI World Cup winners and picked up 189 wickets.
