International Whisky Competition 2025: DeVANS’ GianChand Adambaraa wins best Indian Single Malt

Indian whiskies continue their dominance on the global stage and DeVANS Modern Breweries achieved a significant milestone at the International Whisky Competition (IWC) 2025 in Las Vegas. Its latest single malt expression, GianChand Adambaraa, clinched first place in the ‘Best Indian Single Malt’ and ‘Best Indian Whisky’ categories, hihlighting DeVANS’ standing as a leader in the country’s emerging single malts sector.

The recognition is a proud moment for the brand, said Prem Dewan, Chairman and Managing Director of DeVANS, adding: “This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, tradition, and innovation. GianChand Adambaraa represents decades of commitment reinterpreted for today’s global palate.”

GianChand Adambaraa has drawn attention from global whisky critics, including Jim Murray, who after sampling the expression, remarked, “Can this really be an Indian whisky?”

An excerpt from his upcoming Whisky Bible 2025 says: “I am as shocked as I am spellbound. This is by far the closest to a high-class Scottish malt I have found anywhere in the world, let alone in India. The intensity and purity of the barley is never for a moment compromised. A malt lover’s dream of a whisky.”

Produced, matured, and blended in Jammu and Kashmir, nestled in the Himalayas, the GianChand range pays tribute to the company’s founder, Dewan Gian Chand. Adambaraa is the latest expression in the series, and the first unpeated single malt from DeVANS. Aimed at discerning whisky enthusiasts, it has been matured in handpicked American ex-bourbon casks and offers a distinctive rich amber hue. Its tasting profile includes aromas of dried apricot, honey, and toasted spice, with a palate that opens up to layers of caramel and toffee, balanced with finesse.

The International Whisky Competition is known for its blind tasting format and is considered one of the most respected global contests dedicated to whiskies. This year’s win elevates India’s presence in the premium whisky segment.
