“There has been a rise in the number of tourists visiting the state, especially domestic travellers,” said Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Goa. “A significant increase in tourist footfalls was observed in the month of June, which has continued even in July. Although no collective figures are available yet, the feedback received from the industry stakeholders is encouraging. This is because we have curated campaigns throughout the monsoon season.”
Since the start of monsoons, Goa has been promoting local festivals and cultural experiences. Events such as São João, celebrated on June 24 to mark the birth of St John the Baptist, and Chikhal Kalo, a mud festival honouring the childhood of Lord Krishna, have taken centre stage in promotional efforts. These were publicised using social media influencers and digital campaigns, drawing attention to Goa’s unique heritage beyond its beaches.

São João festival and Chikhal Kalo using social media influencers and various social media campaigns, which has led to an increase in tourist footfall in the state,” Naik revealed.
At present, the Tourism Department is observing July as the ‘Month of Gastronomy’, showcasing the state’s eclectic mix of cuisines and culinary destinations. Visitors are being encouraged to explore Goa’s dining scene, from traditional eateries to modern restaurants.
August will be celebrated as the ‘Month of Experiences and Adventures’, highlighting nature trails, plantation visits, and village tourism, while September will focus on heritage exploration, urging tourists to discover Goa’s forts, museums, scenic drives, and iconic waterfalls.

Among the many monsoon attractions, the Harvalem waterfall in Sankhalim village, North Goa, remains a top draw for nature lovers. With lush greenery and flowing cascades, the location has become a favourite among travellers seeking a different side of Goa.
With targeted campaigns and a renewed focus on authentic local experiences, Goa is increasingly proving that the monsoon isn’t just a season of showers — it’s a season of stories, flavours, and discovery.
