Munmun Dutta opened up about how her mother helped her navigate life in the city during her early days.

Munmun Dutta became a household name with her portrayal of Babita Iyer in the iconic, long-running television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC). While she has won hearts with her performance on the show, the actress’ journey in the industry hasn’t been without its challenges. Recently, she opened up about how her mother supported her through the tough times in the city and shared the invaluable life lessons she has learned from her over the years.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Munmun Dutta opened up about how her mother has been her emotional anchor and a source of practical wisdom. Recalling the early days of her career in Mumbai, when she was struggling financially, the actress shared, “I needed money to pay my PG rent and also pay a photographer for my portfolio. My mom gave me money from her own savings, without telling my dad. That money helped me pay rent, get my photos, and start auditioning. That support meant everything.”
Munmun also shared how her mother has consistently encouraged her to live life on her own terms. She never pressured her to get married and instead urged her to focus on building her career. Even when relatives from their hometown questioned her marital status, her mother stood by her choices. “She proudly tells them that I’m not married because I don’t want to be right now and that she supports me completely,” Munmun added.
Describing her bond with her mother, Munmun Dutta said, “One word is not enough, it’s like a roller coaster. We have love, we have anger. It’s friendly. She is definitely my friend, and I can talk to her about everything that’s going on in my life.”
On the work front, Munmun has been a part of the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for over a decade. The show, which has been airing on Sony SAB since 2008, features a stellar ensemble cast including Amit Bhatt, Dilip Joshi, Mandar Chandwadkar, Sonalika Joshi, Mayur Vakani, Sharad Sankla, Shyam Pathak, and Tanuj Mahashabde, among others.
