TV actress Gautami Kapoor has stirred controversy after revealing in a recent interview that she had considered gifting a sex toy to her daughter, Sia, on her 16th birthday. The remark, made in a candid conversation, has since gone viral, drawing sharp criticism and triggering a wave of trolling on social media.

Gautami explained in the interview that she was pondering over what gift to give her daughter when she turned 16. She considered options including a sex toy or a vibrator.

When Gautami broached the subject with Sia, her daughter initially laughed and responded, “Mother, have you gone mad?”

Gautami defended her idea, saying, “I immediately told her, how many mothers talk to their daughters about such things? I wanted my daughter to know and understand sexual matters, unlike my own upbringing. I want Siya to be informed and experienced so she doesn’t face any problems in the future.”

Presently, Gautami’s daughter is 19 years old, and she also has a son. Gautami noted that her daughter now appreciates the open conversation about sexual education, something most mothers shy away from.

Since Gautami’s revelation, social media has been flooded with a variety of comments, many of which are critical. One user commented, “16 years is a very young age for this. A 21st birthday would have been more appropriate.” Another user criticised the idea, suggesting there should be laws governing parenting.

The backlash included comments stating that even contemplating such a gift for a 16-year-old is absurd and not in line with Western thoughts, and some argued it reflects a lack of proper education.

Mayank Barmi, an expert in marriage law, pointed out that Gautami’s idea is not valid under Indian law, where the age of consent for girls is 18 years.

Other users expressed that Bollywood figures only focus on topics like sex, lust, and drugs, neglecting character building. Critics also questioned why Gautami considered gifting a vibrator rather than focusing on educational or societal contributions. Some sarcastically suggested that such parenting methods could make parenting easier by bypassing traditional explanations.

The uproar over Gautami’s statement continues, with some users even calling for her to be sent to a mental asylum, accusing her of spreading harmful ideas.
