The Indian team secured a series draw with a spectacular victory against England in the final Test of their five-match contest. Head coach Gautam Gambhir praised the team, saying they “deserve every bit of it” and it is difficult to “mention one name” that stands out.

Two consecutive series losses to New Zealand and Australia had forced India into a transition period as a young side under Shubman Gill took on England. Under the guidance of coach Gambhir and captain Gill, the Indian cricket team’s new era began promisingly. Their immense fighting spirit, resilience, and never-say-die mentality helped them secure a series draw by defeating England by six runs at The Oval in a thrilling finale, levelling the series 2-2. The result marked a significant turnaround for India, who came into the England series after a string of poor performances in the traditional format under Gambhir’s charge.

Upon his return to Delhi, Gambhir expressed his happiness, stating, “I think boys deserve every bit of it for the way they performed in all five Tests.”

Gambhir particularly praised pacer Siraj, who was the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps, including nine at The Oval, but he emphasised that it is difficult to single out just one outstanding performer.

“I think he (Siraj) has been brilliant. In fact, not only he, but the entire team has performed brilliantly. It is very difficult for me to mention one name, but these guys have, be it Shubman, be it Siraj, be it everyone… I think the boys have been brilliant throughout the last two months,” said Gambhir.

He also highlighted Shubman’s “fabulous job” and expressed confidence in his future contributions to Indian cricket.

“That is all I can say, and he will keep doing good for Indian cricket,” he concluded.

The series featured close contests in all matches, with both sides achieving new records. Each match ended on the fifth day, and the final match was a fitting conclusion, with both teams dominating different sessions.
