ICC Chairman Jay Shah on Monday lauded India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill, after the youngster led India to a 2-2 draw in the five-match series against England, in his first series as a Test captain, besides impressing one and all with his batting skills and finishing as the highest run-scorer of the series.

It was a huge series for Gill and his side after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and ace India batter Virat Kohli, besides the absence of a senior cricketer like Mohammed Shami.

Even ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t available for all matches, forcing them to change the bowling combination in every match.

Even on Monday morning, the odds were stacked against India, but Gill and Co. managed to pull off a brilliant win against England.

There were ups and downs the whole series, with both sides fighting tooth and nail. As the series went on, Gill grew as a batter and as skipper.

“A special word for @ShubmanGill, record-breaking runs and composed captaincy under pressure. A coming-of-age moment. @klrahul’s twin hundreds were a masterclass in temperament, and @imjadeja’s 500-run milestone is a reminder of his all-round brilliance,” Shah tweeted on Monday evening.

Thank you, Jay bhai ❤️,” Gill replied on Monday night.

With a staggering 754 runs, Gill led from the front in his debut series and silenced the critics who questioned his technique and record in SENA nations.

Gill ended up with four centuries, including a double. Asked how he evolved as a batter, he had a lot to say.

“Each 100 that I scored had a very different significance. The one in Leeds was my first match. I was under a bit of pressure, not being able to perform, especially in this format, how I wanted to, so that 100 would always be special for me,” Gill said.
