India’s tour of England in 2025 has thrown up yet another record with regard to batting performances in Test cricket.
The series featuring India and England saw 50 individual scores of 50 or more, setting a new world record for the most 50-plus scores in a single Test series, surpassing the previous high of 50 set during the 1993 Ashes.

Before this, only four other instances had approached such a high number of 50+ scores in a series: 49 by England and Australia in the 1920/21 Ashes, 46 by the West Indies in Australia during 1960/61, and again 46 by the West Indies in 1968/69. India’s new record highlights not only the strength of their top-order but also significant contributions from the middle and lower order, with nearly every batter playing a crucial role across the five Tests.
Adding to the historical significance, India and England also equalled the record for the most 100-run partnerships in a Test series, achieving 19 century stands — matching the tallies of Pakistan’s 1957/58 tour of the West Indies and England’s 1967/68 visit to the Caribbean. These century partnerships were pivotal in anchoring innings and building match-defining totals under various conditions and situations.

What makes this more incredible is the fact that the feat was achieved in the challenging swinging and seaming conditions in England, which have traditionally troubled subcontinental teams. Instead, the Indian lineup, along with English batters, thrived.
This is only the second Test series to produce 7000-plus runs (5 Tests), behind the 1993 Ashes series with 7221 runs in six Tests.

The five-match Test series between India and England in 2025 has been filled with high drama and top-quality cricket. The series kicked off at Headingley, Leeds, from June 20 to 24, where England secured a five-wicket victory. India made a strong comeback in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from July 2 to 6, winning convincingly by 336 runs. The third Test at Lord’s, held from July 10 to 14, was a nail-biter, with England narrowly defeating India by 22 runs in a thrilling finish. The fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, played from July 23 to 27, concluded in a hard-fought draw.
