Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the American actor best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54, PEOPLE magazine reported.

Warner reportedly drowned while swimming during a family vacation in Costa Rica, the outlet said, citing its own sources. His representatives have not yet issued a statement.

Warner rose to fame as the affable son of Bill Cosby’s character, Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, on the iconic sitcom The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992. The role made him a household name and cemented his place in television history.

In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Warner spoke about his connection with the show, saying, “I know I can speak for all the cast when I say The Cosby Show is something that we are all still very proud of.”

Malcolm‑Jamal Warner straight‑up owned the ’80s as Theodore Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” snagging an Emmy nod and locking in his spot in TV royalty.

He sustained his momentum with the popular sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie,” lent his voice to the beloved cartoon “The Magic School Bus,” and showcased his musical talent with a Grammy win in 2015.

Most recently, he was hosting the podcast “Not All Hood,” and his latest episode dropped just 3 days ago.

Warner is survived by his wife and daughter, whose names he kept private, preferring to keep his family life out of the public eye.

Further details surrounding his death are awaited.
