India’s consumer tablet market recorded a 20.5% year-on-year growth in the first half of 2025 (H1 2025), driven by aggressive vendor strategies and steady demand through e-commerce platforms, retail outlets, and online sales channels, according to a new report by the International Data Corporation (IDC).

Samsung kept the market leadership in the tablet domain in the country with a market share of 41.3 per cent in H1 2025 followed by Lenovo at 12.3% and Apple at 11.8%. Samsung continued to dominate both consumer and commercial categories, while Lenovo strengthened its position in the SMB and enterprise space, the report added.

The report mentioned that seasonal offers, promotional events, and Back-to-School campaigns further boosted sales, drawing in buyers and improving conversions. Detachable tablets also gained traction, posting an 18.9% year-on-year growth during the same period.

“The consumer tablet segment is maintaining strong momentum in India,” said Priyansh Tiwari, research analyst at IDC India & South Asia. He highlighted that online sales outperformed offline channels, thanks to exclusive launches, EMI schemes, and cashback offers. Demand for larger displays, stylus-equipped devices, and affordable entry-level tablets also played a major role in the segment’s growth, he added.

Worldwide tablet shipments grew 13.1% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25), totaling 38.3 million units, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. Growth continued from the first quarter with product refreshes, replacement cycles, active education projects and subsidies in China driving the shipment volume.
