As the men in blue gear up for the upcoming Asia Cup, former India opener Virender Sehwag has predicted three top performers from the Indian camp. The side boasts a plethora of youngsters who will look to defend the title under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership.

India will begin their campaign against the UAE on September 10. Ahead of the tournament, Sehwag has picked players who would stand out for India.

“I think Abhishek Sharma can be a game-changer. Bumrah is always a game-changer. Varun Chakravarthy, with his mystery bowling, was very effective in the Champions Trophy and in the T20 format as well. So, these are some game changers for India who can win matches on their own,” Sehwag said on Sony Sports.

Abhishek Sharma, the left-handed dasher, has quickly made a name for himself since debuting against Zimbabwe in July 2024. Now the No. 1-ranked T20I batter, he has been a solid presence at the top with his fearless strokeplay. With the Asia Cup around the corner, this will be his first big test on a major stage.

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace leader across formats, hasn’t played a T20I since the 2024 World Cup final. A back injury kept him out of the Champions Trophy, and even in the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he featured in only three of five Tests due to workload management. His last T20 outing came in IPL 2025, where he impressed with 18 wickets in 12 games at an economy of 6.67.

Varun Chakravarthy has been a revelation on his comeback. He topped the charts against Bangladesh and later spun a web around England in January 2025, bagging the Player of the Series award. In 18 T20Is since, he has 33 wickets at 7.02 – proof that his mystery spin remains a vital part of India’s attack.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup:

Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh

Standby players: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel.
