India’s senior domestic season for 2025-26 gets underway with the Duleep Trophy. The Duleep Trophy reverts to a zonal format, featuring six sides including North Zone, South Zone, East Zone, West Zone, Central Zone and North East Zone – in an exciting three-week-long tournament that pits some of India’s finest red-ball performers against each other.
In the 1st quarterfinal, North Zone will face East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru.
The BCCI has awarded direct semifinal seeding to both the South Zone and West Zone. The North Zone versus East Zone clash is therefore a direct knock-out to determine who progresses further into the competition.
Originally due to be captained by India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill, the North Zone side will now have vice-captain Ankit Kumar stepping up to lead the troops. For the East Zone, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was named the leader of the side that boasts of comeback man Mohammad Shami. However, Ishan will miss the contest with Abhimanyu Easwaran leading the team.
