Over eight months after announcing international retirement, legendary offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also drawn curtains on his IPL career. In a post on social media, Ashwin said he’s done playing IPL but now wants to explore other “leagues” indicating he may still continue playing competitive cricket.
“Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me,” he added.

Well done on your wonderful career. Good luck for the future buddy.— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) August 27, 2025
Our memory often cheats us into undermining someone’s capabilities. @ashwinravi99 bhai was the foremost experimenter in IPL bowling, redefining the rules when people said the format wasn’t suited for off spin bowling. A legend, and a ruthless winner, you’ll be missed #Ashwin https://t.co/nzoB9AQyce— Priyank Panchal (@PKpanchal09) August 27, 2025
Ash, you’ve been more than just a cricketer, you’ve been a true ambassador of India’s spirit and sportsmanship. Your temperament, grit, and brilliance have inspired countless fans. Wishing you the very best for your second innings. Anbuden will miss you dearly 🙏 @ashwinravi99 https://t.co/eNfNzHjVxr— Vijay Vasanth (@iamvijayvasanth) August 27, 2025
