Bank Holiday Today: Banks in certain parts of India will remain closed on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to mark the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi, as per the region-wise holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Ganesh Chaturthi Bank Holiday – Region-Wise List

On August 27, 2025, banks will remain shut in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, and Vijayawada for Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha. Banks in other parts of the country will continue normal operations.

Ganesh Chaturthi, dedicated to Lord Ganesh—the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune—will begin on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and conclude with Ganesh Visarjan on Saturday, September 6, 2025, according to Drikpanchang.

Next Bank Holiday

Banks in Odisha and Goa will remain closed on Thursday, August 28, 2025, for the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi and Nuakhai, an agricultural festival celebrated in Western Odisha to welcome the season’s new rice crop.

This means banks in these two states will be closed on both August 27 and 28, 2025.

When Are Banks Closed?

Banks across India remain closed on national, regional, and religious holidays, as well as on weekends, except the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of every month.

All closures are listed in the annual holiday calendar published by the RBI, in line with the Negotiable Instruments Act, which regulates the issuance of cheques and promissory notes. Consequently, transactions involving these instruments are not processed on holidays.

What Services Are Available on a Bank Holiday?

Even during holidays, online and digital banking services remain operational nationwide. Customers can still access:

  • Fund transfers via NEFT/RTGS, demand drafts, and cheques
  • Card services including debit, credit, and ATM card usage
  • Account-related facilities such as standing instructions, locker requests, and account maintenance forms

This ensures uninterrupted access to essential banking services despite physical branch closures.
