Star West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd was on fire for Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday (August 27). In the 13th league match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 season, the 30-year-old cricketer came out to bat at No. 7 for the Imran Tahir-led side against the St Lucia Kings at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, and remained unbeaten on 73 runs from just 34 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered five fours and seven sixes.
Of his seven sixes, three came in the 15th over of the match bowled by Oshane Thomas. And interestingly, all three of them were on the free hit.
Thomas bowled a front-foot no-ball on the third ball, in which Romario failed to score any run, but he got a free hit. On the free hit, Shepherd smashed a six, but Thomas overstepped again, so as a result, on the next ball, Shepherd again got a free hit. He hammered a six again, but this time too Thomas bowled a front-foot no ball. On the third free hit, Shepherd smacked one more maximum to add half-a-dozen runs to his and his team’s tally.
And since Shepherd hit three sixes on free hits, only one legal ball was counted, and as a result the 30-year-old cricketer smacked 20 runs from just one ball.
The clip of Shepherd’s super show with the bat was shared by fans on X, and it is now going viral on the internet.
Shepherd, who has played 39 ODIs and 63 T20Is for the West Indies so far, made headlines with his batting performances in IPL 2025 as well. In the 2025 edition of the world’s richest franchise cricket league, Romario represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru and scored 70 runs in three innings of eight matches in addition to dismissing six batters.
During RCB’s 11th league match of the season, which was played against Chennai Super Kings at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3, he completed his half-century in just 14 balls. The 14-ball fifty by Shepherd is the second-fastest half-century in the history of the Indian Premier League.
The record of hitting the fastest fifty in IPL is in the name of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed Indian batter crossed the 50-run mark in just 13 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023 match.
