iPhone 16 users might not know this but Apple already has this charging feature available and it just needed an update

iPhone 16 users, your free upgrade should be available soon
iPhone 16 users are getting a free upgrade in the next few weeks and Apple is going to make it happen just with a software update. Yes, the iOS 26 public update will bring a major charging boost for last year’s iPhone 16 series, something that Google has offered with the new Pixel 10 series.
The upgrade in charging speed is not limited to Apple’s own accessories, which is a big deal, and allows people to invest in other third-party chargers for their iPhones. The Qi2 charging standard makes it happen and Apple is offering it with the new iOS 26 version for compatible iPhone models.
Qi2 Comes To iPhone 16: Know How
So, if you have the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro or the 16 Pro Max models, you will be able to extract more wireless charging speed out of these devices when you get the iOS 26 version installed.
Apple has not officially said anything about it yet but reports say the Qi2 wireless support is available on iPhone 16 models with the iOS 26 update. This is effectively a free upgrade, and the company should have more details about its availability ahead of the iPhone 17 launch next month, when we could hear about the iOS 26 release date as well.
Pixel 10 has launched with Qi2 wireless charging without any updates. The new standard gives wireless charging a big boost. Apple users can expect their third-party 15W charging speed going up to 25W with Qi2 version and that applies for the non-Apple chargers available in the market.
iPhones are not the best when it comes to charging standards, lagging far behind brands like Oppo, Xiaomi and even Samsung for that matter. But wireless charging is a premium feature that iPhones have offered for many years, and the 15W to 25W charging boost will be welcomed by millions of iPhone 16 or 16 Pro owners.
Qi2 chargers are gradually making their way to the market and Apple should have its devices upgraded for the change, right in time with the new iPhone 17 models also rolling in a month’s time.
