Vivo unveiled its first mixed reality headset which is also called Vision. Apple started this market with the Vision Pro, while Meta offers more affordable options in this category with the Quest lineup. Vivo claims its first headset focuses on comfort and lighter design, something that other Vision headsets fail to offer.

The new product was showcased in China last week and people hoping for the headset to get a wider launch may have to keep their expectations in check. It does get a Snapdragon XR chipset and its visor-like design clearly seems inspired by the Vision headset from Cupertino, California.

Vivo Vision Discovery Headset: What It Offers

The design of the Vision headset has a lot of cues from Apple’s own device. The visor module houses the displays while the brand says the design has been made in a way that it is slimmer and lighter than the ‘industry average.’

Vivo is using the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform to power the device which is faster with GPU and CPU performance compared to the Gen 2 version. It has a 175-degree vertical tracking range, supports gesture controls which uses move-and-pinch measures.

Vivo has packed the headset with a dual micro-OLED display that gets 8K resolution. The brand claims to have tuned the panel to work like high-end monitors but without causing major discomfort to the eyes. The headset weighs 398 grams which is over 200 grams lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

Vivo’s platform on the Vision headset is called OriginOS Vision which includes features for watching live sports, and even use the split screen mode. Devices like these need the software to do the bulk of the work, and get developer support for apps, which Vivo needs to be sure of before selling it in the market.

Where Can You Buy?

Vivo did not say when the Vision headset will be available in the market but all signs suggest the company will keep it limited to China for a while. In fact, Vivo wants to first allow people to try out the headset at stores in the country, and then later plan for making it available in the market with an actual price tag, which is not likely to make it a mass product, just like Apple’s Vision product.
