Star India batter Prithvi Shaw registered yet another fifty-plus score in the ongoing Buchi Babu Trophy, as he tries to get into the groove ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season, where he will represent Maharashtra, having left his native Mumbai earlier this year.

In reply to TNCA President’s XI’s first-innings score of 384/9, Maharashtra lost captain Siddhesh Veer early, before Prithvi and Sachin Dhas added 47 runs for the second wicket.

After Dhas was dismissed by RS Ambrish, Prithvi and Harshal Kate added 94 crucial runs for the third wicket, before Prithvi was dismissed for 66 by CV Achyuth.

Prithvi, who resumed on 47 off 57 deliveries, reached his milestone on the very first ball of the third day with a three-run back-foot punch.

After Prithvi’s dismissal, Maharashtra soon found themselves at 188/8, before Siddharth Mhatre and Hitesh Walunj added 33 runs for the ninth wicket. At the time of writing, Maharashtra are 223/9, with the latter and Pradeep Dhadhe on the crease.

This marked Shaw’s second half-century in just three innings since joining Maharashtra for the new domestic season.

In the pre-season Buchi Babu tournament against Chhattisgarh, Prithvi scored a brilliant 111 off 141 deliveries on a turning track, while the rest of the Maharashtra lineup managed just 92 runs combined.

In the second innings, Prithvi was dismissed for only one run and Chhattisgarh went on to win the game by 35 runs.

In 2024, Shaw was left out of the Mumbai team because of fitness and disciplinary problems and went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction as well.

Before the Buchi Babu tournament, Prithvi featured for the North Mumbai Panthers in the Mumbai T20 League.

“I don’t mind starting from scratch again because I’ve seen many ups and downs in my life. And I’ve been up there, I’ve been down there and I’ve come back up there. So, everything is possible, I feel,” Shaw was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

“I’m kind of a very confident guy, confident in myself and my work ethic. I feel and I hope that this season will go really well for me as well as for my new team,” Shaw added.
