We all have seen it: every time there is a fight, argument or differences of opinion, your girlfriend or wife gets upset and wants to talk instantly, while you would rather stay quiet or walk away. For years, men have brushed women’s responses off as “drama” or “rant.” But what if we told you it is not drama at all, but science?

A new video by Orthopaedic Surgeon & Health Educator Dr. Manan Vora has gone viral for explaining why women and men react so differently when they are stressed, and the explanation is eye-opening.

Stress Hits Men And Women Differently

According to Dr. Vora, when a woman is stressed, her brain releases oxytocin, the hormone that makes her want to connect and talk things out. On the other hand, men release more cortisol, the stress hormone that pushes them to shut down, withdraw or walk away from the situation. You see, there is the same stressful trigger, but two opposite reactions. She wants to talk, and you prefer silence.

Women Process Emotions Faster

Another interesting point highlighted by Dr. Vora is that the female brain connects emotions with words more quickly. According to him, women are biologically wired to put feelings into words much faster. This is why she wants to tell you what is wrong when something happens, while you may still be figuring out how you even feel about it. PS: She is not asking you to fix things; she just wants you to listen.

Why Past Arguments Resurface

Ever wondered why something you thought was “over” comes up again weeks or months later? Dr. Vora explains that women have stronger emotional memory. Even if they have moved on from the incident but the emotional impact remains the same. So when she brings it up again, you must know that it still hurts her.

Listen, Don’t Shut Down

The viral video clarifies the reason behind women’s reactions to arguments, and the takeaway? Instead of looking at things as unnecessary conflict, simply understand that women aren’t “overreacting”; they are responding to stress the way their brains are wired to. Next time she gets upset, don’t cut her off or walk away. Just let her speak, listen with empathy and try to understand.
