WestBridge Capital acquires 15 percent stake in Edelweiss Asset Management Limited for Rs 450 crore.

Edelweiss Financial Services Limited’s (EFSL’s) shares will be in focus next week following the 15 per cent stake acquisition by WestBridge Capital in in Edelweiss Asset Management Limited, the asset management arm of Edelweiss Mutual Fund (Edelweiss MF), for Rs 450 crore.
Shares of Edelweiss Financial Services Limited ended 3.48 per cent lower to Rs 93.58 apiece, against the previous day close at Rs 96.90 apiece.
Westbridge Capital is a private equity firm that specializes in the acquisition of mature operating companies with great management teams.
Edelweiss MF, one of India’s fastest-growing mutual fund houses, manages a total AUM of ₹1,52,200 crore as of June 30, 2025, marking a 44% CAGR over the last five years. The mutual fund reported a profit after tax of Rs 28 crore for Q1 FY26, reflecting strong momentum and improved operating leverage. Over the last decade, Edelweiss MF has moved from the 36th to the 13th position in the industry, demonstrating its rise as a credible and competitive player in the Indian mutual fund landscape.
The transaction values Edelweiss MF at 57x P/E, in line with industry benchmarks of 30x to 60x. EFSL said the deal supports its value creation and unlock journey in the mutual fund business while providing Edelweiss MF with the capital and strategic backing to accelerate its next phase of growth.
Rashesh Shah, Chairman & MD of EFSL, stated that welcoming WestBridge as a partner is a timely step in the company’s value-creation journey, reflecting confidence in the long-term potential of the mutual fund business. Radhika Gupta, MD & CEO of Edelweiss MF, added that the partnership with WestBridge, a global investment firm with over $7 billion in assets under management, will help drive growth through strategic insights and strengthened distribution.
