India ODI captain Rohit Sharma could make his competitive return in the unofficial ODI series between India A and Australia A slated to be held in September-October. Rohit hasn’t played any competitive cricket since he represented Mumbai in IPL 2025 and could gear up for India’s white-ball tour of Australia by playing for India A in Kanpur.

According to Revsportz, Rohit doesn’t want to fly to Australia without any preparations and therefore is keen on being part of the three matches to be held at Green Park. Australia A squad will feature the likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Todd Murphy, Aaron Hardie, Tanveer Sangha among others.

The 38-year-old, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, last played international cricket during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand.

India’s Australia tour gets underway from October 19 with a three-match ODI series. The contests will be held at the Adelaide Oval (Adelaide), Sydney Cricket Ground (Sydney) and Manuka Oval (Canberra) on October 19, October 23 and October 25 respectively.

The tour also includes a five-match T20I series.

Rohit’s Last International Series?

As per various media reports, the series could well end up being the final such of Rohit’s glorious India career. The BCCI is reportedly set to hold discussions with the veteran batting star regarding his future as the team starts planning for the next ODI World Cup set to be played in 2027.

Rohit will be 40 by the time and the board would be keen on starting the transition phase in the one-day format as well. A latest report claims that Shreyas Iyer is the likely candidate to replace Rohit as the next ODI captain.

In his last ODI appearance – the final of Champions Trophy – Rohit produced a player-of-the-match award winning performance to help India win the title. He scored 76 off 83 on a tricky pitch to help his team chase down 252 in 49 overs for a four-wicket win.
