BSNL users can finally sign up for eSIM service. Know the details

BSNL is adding new services to its network and the latest is eSIM support for its subscribers in select regions earlier this month. The eSIM support is available for a wide range of devices these days and the telecom operator is offering them the service through its own network.

BSNL says eSIM will allow its subscribers to access instant activation on their device, IoT-ready connectivity and hassle-free experience on smartphones and wearables. Brands like Google and Apple offer eSIM support on their devices and BSNL is now an option for people who don’t want to handle the effort of using a physical SIM card.

BSNL eSIM Service Launch: Where It Works And How To Get One?

BSNL eSIM service is available in the Tamil Nadu region for now and other states will be getting the support very soon. The operator has not shared any clear timeline for eSIM launch in other cities.

If you are looking to get the BSNL eSIM for your device, the operator has set up a clear process that everyone can follow to get one for themselves.

Those wanting to switch to BSNL eSIM are being asked to visit the nearest BSNL service centres. They need to take an eSIM-compatible phone/watch with them and carry a valid ID card for digital KYC verification. The operator will then give you a QR that needs to be set up on the device to use the eSIM profile of the company.

BSNL eSIM: Can Everyone Get It?

BSNL says its existing customers as well as new subscribers can avail the eSIM facility for their devices. The company has not said if the transfer from a physical SIM to eSIM will be free of cost or chargeable for the user.

However, it is good to see BSNL bring the eSIM support for its network after all these years, and joins the likes of Jio, Airtel and Vi that have simplified the process to get an eSIM but still there are challenges with how the system works. The biggest issue with using an eSIM in India is the challenge to move across devices, which should ideally be easy but the operators are yet to fully comply and make it seamless for everyone.

The company is also building its 5G network in the country which should be launching soon for the mobile customers and giving people more options.
