Suryakumar Yadav’s stunning catch of David Miller at the boundary in the final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will go down as one of the finest in the history of the global tourney. The catch, taken in the final over, decided the fate of the title with Suryakumar keeping his calm to ensure he took the catch cleanly and lobbed the ball back right before the momentum pushed him past the boundary. He kept his balance and returned to the playing field to complete the catch and break South African hearts.

The effort sent Miller back to the South African dug-out for 21 off 17 as Hardik Pandya successfully defended 16 in it help India become the T20 world champions for the second time in history. However, there was controversy over the catch with unverified claims of the boundary cushions being pushed back.

Now, former India batter and now a commentator Ambati Rayudu has made a big claim of the boundary not being where it should have been but blamed the error on the broadcasters.

“During the break, the broadcasters put up a chair and place a screen to help the world feed commentators see what’s happening. So, for that, they pushed the rope a little behind to put up the chair and screen. However, it was left as it is (once the screens were taken away and match resumed). So, it (the boundary) became a little bigger for us,” Rayudu told Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel.

“We (commentators) could see that from the top. Don’t know if it was six or not but had the rope been inside, Surya would’ve have made his run from there. It was an absolutely clean catch. At the end of the day, God was with us,” he added.

India went on to win the match by seven runs and became the champions for the first time since 2007.
