Meta is bringing more premium smart glasses to the market and the next one could have Google Glass-like features and hardware.

Meta is reportedly launching its first premium smart AR glasses codenamed Hypernova in the next few weeks. The biggest change with these glasses are expected to be displays built into them rather than offering camera-based use like the Meta Ray Ban glasses.
The new Meta smart glasses were widely expected to launch for over $1000 (Rs 87,500 approx) but the new report from Bloomberg says otherwise and also gives a more clear launch timeline for the new display-centric wearable from the company.
Meta Hypernova Smart Glasses: What We Know
The report says Meta is happy to offset its business profits to bring the new smart glasses at around $800 (Rs 65,400 approx) which is still quite high for the segment, but much less than the earlier reported $1,000 price tag.
These new glasses will mimic the Google Glass model rather than go up against the full version of headsets. It will have a small display on the right lens where you can receive notifications, alerts and even view apps through the interface built for the device. However, instead of pairing it with your phone, Meta will have another gadget that straps onto the wrist and transmits the data to the eye-based wearable for gesture controls and more.
The new pricing strategy from Meta does make sense, especially with the lessons learnt from Apple’s Vision Pro model in the market. The $3,499 priced headset has seen modest sales and its availability limited to select regions.
The report claims Meta will announce this new device some time in September which is just a few weeks from now, and for all you know, it might want to steal Apple’s iPhone 17 thunder by making this big reveal around the same time.
Meta’s Ray Ban smart glasses now have a big privacy issue because of the recent changes made by Meta in its rules.
These new policies have a direct impact on the smart glasses consumers, and how they interact using these wearables for voice and camera. The new rules are clearly highlighted by Meta in a detailed post which came into effect from late April 2025. It can access the recordings of all the Ray Ban smart glasses users by default.
The feature is available in the settings so you can manually ensure that Meta does not have access to the local files, which then stops the platform from getting hold of your conversations done through the smart glasses using the Hey Meta wake word.
