Lavish weddings and grand social events are no longer limited to big cities. Smaller towns across the country, including Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, are witnessing a surge in demand for professional event planners. This rising trend has opened the door for entrepreneurs to tap into a lucrative market with relatively low start-up costs.
Industry experts say an event management venture can be launched with an initial investment of around Rs 1 lakh. The first step is formal registration, including GST compliance, followed by creating a professional portfolio to showcase capabilities to prospective clients. The portfolio, they note, often plays a decisive role in securing bookings.
Strong ties with local vendors – caterers, decorators, sound and lighting providers, transport operators – are considered essential. In the early stages, entrepreneurs can rely on external vendors to cut costs before building their own supply base.
Equally crucial is assembling a skilled, dependable team. Industry veterans stress that the quality of execution depends heavily on the expertise of staff, from event coordinators to technical specialists. Photography and videography have also become integral to event planning, and businesses can either hire in-house professionals or partner with independent service providers.
Marketing, experts point out, can make or break a new business. With social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram driving much of today’s promotion, entrepreneurs are increasingly turning to digital campaigns, search engine optimisation, and dedicated company websites to reach clients.
India hosts lakhs of weddings and countless other events every year, and the appetite for well-organised, professionally managed celebrations is only growing. Analysts predict that those entering the market now, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, could secure a strong foothold and earn handsomely across the festive and wedding seasons.
