The general cost of setting up an EV charging point ranges between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, depending on the type of charger installed. Standard expenses include the cost of a new electrical connection, civil work, technicians and workers, maintenance, advertising, marketing, EVSE management software and integration, and site contract. Ranchi’s well-known business expert Avinash has provided information regarding this.

The area required to set up a charging station depends on the type of electric vehicles to be charged and other activities available on the site.

Such charging equipment requires more than 10 square feet of space, although more importantly, it should not be less than 100 square feet, the minimum area for vehicle parking and movement.

The number of employees required is also limited. Most companies providing good charging infrastructure offer complete solutions, including equipment, software, and mobile apps at their station. Therefore, there is no need for a large number of employees or manpower at the charging stations.

Additionally, everything from payment for charging to billing is done online. Thus, one can start the business of a charging station even with a limited number of employees. The best aspect of this business in terms of licences is that no licence is needed.

According to the Ministry of Power, no licence is required to set up electric vehicle charging stations in India. Setting up stations is permitted by following the necessary rules. However, a no objection certificate must be obtained from the Forest Department and Municipal Corporation.

Assuming a 3000 kW electric charging station is installed and the charge per kilowatt is Rs 2, it can generate an income of up to Rs 2.25 lakh per month.
