Hasan Nawaz had a spectacular one-day international debut, remaining unbeaten on 63 runs, helping Pakistan to a five-wicket victory over West Indies in their ODI series opener on Friday.

Nawaz and Hussain Talat built an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 104 runs, leading the visitors in the day-night match. The second game is scheduled for Sunday and the final one on Tuesday.

West Indies were bowled out for 280, with Evin Lewis scoring 60 off 62 balls, including three sixes and five fours. Shai Hope contributed 55, while Roston Chase added 53.

Chasing 281 for victory, Pakistan benefited from Mohammad Rizwan’s 53 before he was trapped lbw by Shamar Joseph in the 38th over, leaving the visitors 101 runs short of the target. Nawaz and Talat then took charge.

Nawaz hit a six on the second ball of the 49th over and sealed the win with a boundary off the final delivery by Joseph, giving Pakistan the victory with seven balls remaining.

Nawaz’s innings included 63 runs off 54 balls with three sixes and five fours, while Talat scored 41 off 37 balls with one six and four fours.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first, a decision that quickly paid off when Brandon King was dismissed for four on the fifth ball of the opening over, bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi and caught by Babar Azam. Afridi took four wickets in total.

Lewis was dismissed on the last ball of the 19th over, bowled by Saim Ayub and caught by Afridi.

West Indies captain Hope was bowled by Afridi and caught by Rizwan on the second ball of the 41st over, leaving the hosts at 200 for five.

Romario Shepherd was dismissed for four on the last ball of the 43rd over.

Chase reached his half-century with a boundary but was out on the next ball, caught by Azam and bowled by Naseem Shah, who also dismissed Gudakesh Motie and Jediah Blades with the last two deliveries.
