Star Pakistan middle-order batter Haider Ali is facing a criminal probe in the United Kingdom by the Greater Manchester Police and has been suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo.

Although the nature of the alleged offence remains undisclosed, the report states that Haider isn’t in custody in the United Kingdom but was interviewed under caution by Greater Manchester Police.

The PCB released a statement confirming it had been informed of the investigation, noting that the incident took place during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England, which ended on Monday.

The PCB has confirmed it is offering legal support to Haider to ensure his rights are protected throughout the ongoing process. As per a report by A Sports, he is facing travel restrictions as the investigation remains ongoing.

“The PCB has been made aware of a criminal investigation currently being conducted by the Greater Manchester Police involving cricketer Haider Ali. The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens‘ recent tour of England,” the statement from PCB read.

“The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course. Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.

Haider, 24, has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20Is and was one of the senior cricketers on the Shaheens‘ tour of the UK.

Haider scored an unbeaten 55 in the third match of the tour, besides a 71 in the first game. Before the tour, he was seen in action in the Pakistan Super League, where he could score just 77 runs in six matches at a dismal average of 15.4.

Notably, Haider hasn’t played an ODI in over four years, while he hasn’t played a T20I in over a year.
