Collinson Group has announced a £500 million, five-year investment programme, supported by a new £350 million revolving credit facility. A significant part of the programme will be directed towards expanding its airport lounge network and investing in Priority Pass.
For credit-card users, the development is relevant because Priority Pass memberships are offered as a benefit on some premium cards, although the number of complimentary visits, guest access and other conditions depend on the individual card and issuing bank.
More lounges and travel experiences
Priority Pass said it has recently crossed 1,900 airport lounges and travel experiences globally, with its network expanding 6.7% over the past 12 months.
The company plans to further expand the lounge network through Airport Dimensions, its sister company. The investment is aimed at increasing lounge capacity as global demand for airport and travel experiences grows.
However, the planned expansion of the Priority Pass network does not by itself mean that credit-card holders will receive additional complimentary lounge visits. Cardholders’ entitlements continue to depend on the terms set by their respective card issuers.
AI features in Priority Pass app
Priority Pass is also upgrading its digital platform and rolling out its new Priority Pass+ app.
The company said future functionality will use AI, past user behaviour and real-time geolocation, where enabled, to suggest suitable lounges and travel experiences based on a member’s journey.
The app is also being upgraded with features including saved card functionality, biometric authentication and email or mobile one-time verification.
Eligible members can view and manage multiple Priority Pass memberships through the app. In a planned feature, eligible principal payment cardholders will also be able to share visit entitlements with supplementary cardholders when the issuing bank permits it.
This could be relevant for families using premium credit cards with lounge-access benefits, although the availability of the feature will depend on the individual card issuer.
Fast-track airport access
Priority Pass is also expanding services beyond traditional lounge access. Its airport fast-track service is currently available at 28 airports and is expected to expand to more than 170 bookable fast-track lanes across more than 150 terminals and more than 130 airports globally over the next 12 months.
The service provides access to expedited security lanes through the Priority Pass app. It is a separately priced, member-funded service, and lounge entitlements cannot be used to pay for fast track.
The programme also offers services including airport parking, luggage storage and Priority Pass Private, a luxury airport experience.
What credit-card users should check
For credit-card users, the key point is that having a Priority Pass membership does not mean all benefits are identical across cards.
Cardholders should check their individual card’s terms for the number of complimentary lounge visits, domestic and international access, guest charges, spending requirements, supplementary-cardholder eligibility and any fees applicable after the complimentary entitlement is exhausted.
Collinson’s announcement does not specify an India-specific investment amount or the number of additional lounges planned for Indian airports. Therefore, the impact on Indian credit-card users will depend on how individual card issuers structure and update their Priority Pass benefits.
The broader £500 million investment programme will also support Collinson’s insurance business, new technology and products, entry into new markets and investment in its workforce.
