Netflix, Ministry of Tourism launch new section on Incredible India website

Netflix and the Ministry of Tourism have launched a new section on the Incredible India website that will showcase real locations and cultural experiences featured in Netflix films and series.

The “As Seen on Netflix” section was launched in New Delhi on Thursday (August 6) as part of the partnership between Netflix India and the Ministry of Tourism.

The initiative will provide information on destinations, traditions and experiences depicted in Netflix content.

The launch comes as Netflix completes 10 years of operations in India.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat discussed the role of entertainment content in influencing travel choices and promoting awareness of cultural destinations.

The collaboration follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Netflix India and the Ministry of Tourism last year. As part of the partnership, videos showcasing India’s wildlife and cultural heritage were also released at ITB Berlin earlier this year and have been used by Indian missions overseas for tourism promotion.

Films and series as tourism touchpoints

Entertainment content has emerged as a way for audiences to discover new destinations and cultural experiences. Locations featured in films and shows often influence travel interest, with viewers seeking to explore places they encounter on screen.

The new section will bring together information on places featured in Netflix productions and connect them with tourism-related details.

Shekhawat said storytelling can help highlight India’s heritage, destinations and traditions globally while supporting the country’s creative ecosystem.

Sarandos said stories rooted in different parts of India have reached audiences across markets over the past decade and can encourage viewers to explore the cultures and places portrayed on screen.

Netflix has produced and distributed Indian content across multiple languages and genres since its India launch in 2016. Some of its titles, including The Elephant Whisperers, Amar Singh Chamkila and Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, have featured India’s wildlife, music traditions and historical settings.
