Myanmar’s apparel exports fall 16.5% in H1, Japan demand holds firm

Japan remained the only major market among the top five to register growth, according to sourcing intelligence tool TexPro.

Germany retained its position as the second-largest market despite imports falling *.* per cent YoY to $***.** million. Shipments to Poland recorded the sharpest decline among the leading destinations, dropping **.* per cent to $***.** million from $***.** million in the corresponding period of ****. Exports to South Korea fell *.* per cent to $***.** million, while shipments to Italy declined **.* per cent to $***.** million. Italy replaced the US among Myanmar**;s top five export destinations during the period.

The five largest markets—Japan, Germany, Poland, South Korea and Italy—accounted for about **.* per cent of Myanmar**;s total apparel exports in the first six months of ****, highlighting the country**;s continued dependence on a limited group of overseas buyers.

The concentration of Myanmar**;s apparel exports among its largest markets remained broadly stable over the past three years. The top five destinations accounted for **.** per cent of total exports in the first half of ****, compared with **.** per cent in the corresponding period of ****. Their combined share was **.** per cent in full-year **** and **.** per cent in ****, indicating a gradual increase in export concentration.
