Hinduism includes many ancient scriptures that continue to influence people’s daily lives even today. One such revered text is Vastu Shastra, which offers valuable guidance on living harmoniously with your surroundings. While many of its remedies are simple, they are believed to have a powerful impact when followed consistently, bringing peace, prosperity, and happiness.
However, ignoring these principles, even unknowingly, can invite negativity into one’s life. One lesser-known but important aspect of Vastu is the effect of what we keep near our head while sleeping.
According to Acharya Anand Bhardwaj from Ujjain, keeping certain items by your bedside can disrupt sleep, drain finances, and even block good fortune. Here are a few items Vastu experts strongly advise you to avoid placing near your head while sleeping:
Medicines
According to Vastu Shastra, keeping daily-use medicines near your head while sleeping can prolong illness. It reinforces the energy of disease, increases anxiety and mental stress, and may cause Vastu Dosh (energetic imbalance in the home).
Stopped or Broken Clocks
Items that show time—especially clocks that have stopped—should not be kept near your head. Vastu believes that a non-working clock can symbolise stagnation, leading to mental unrest, stress, and disrupted sleep.
Electronic Devices
Avoid keeping mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and other electronic gadgets near your head while sleeping. These devices emit radiation, disrupt natural energy flow, interrupt sleep cycles, and raise stress levels.
Shoes or Slippers
Keeping footwear near your bed—or worse, near your head—invites negative energy into the space. It can lead to unrest in the home, health problems, and even impact peace of mind and harmony in relationships.
Wallets or Money-Related Items
Many people unknowingly keep their purse, wallet, or even cash close to their head at night. Vastu experts say this can lead to increased expenses, financial instability, and is considered disrespectful to Goddess Lakshmi. It may also affect your ability to sleep peacefully.
