After Ayodhya and Kashi, UP’s temple tourism map expands with Tameshwarnath Dham corridor

Uttar Pradesh is set to add another destination to its growing religious tourism landscape, with the state government planning a grand corridor at Tameshwarnath Dham in Sant Kabir Nagar. The proposed project is being planned along the lines of redeveloped temple areas in Ayodhya, Varanasi and Vindhyachal, according to a statement by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The move is expected to give Tameshwarnath Dham a new identity and boost tourism-related development in the region.

Addressing a gathering in Sant Kabir Nagar after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs 475 crore across Sant Kabir Nagar and Gorakhpur, Adityanath said the government wants to develop a “grand corridor” at Tameshwarnath Dham.

The chief minister said the project would help improve facilities around the shrine and support the growth of the area. He also sought public support for the development plan.

The government is also working on plans for other religious sites, including Baijunath Dham, as part of its focus on heritage and pilgrimage destinations.

UP’s growing temple tourism circuit

Over the past few years, Uttar Pradesh has focused on redeveloping major religious destinations and improving infrastructure around pilgrimage centres.

The redevelopment of the temple precincts in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi have become major examples of how religious sites are being connected with tourism, better facilities and local economic growth.

The proposed Tameshwarnath Dham corridor could expand this model further into eastern Uttar Pradesh, bringing more attention to lesser-known religious destinations.

Focus on Purvanchal development

The corridor plan comes alongside other development initiatives in the region. Adityanath said connectivity through the Purvanchal Expressway has helped transform areas earlier considered less developed by improving links with Lucknow and creating opportunities for investment and employment.

The government is also developing Bakhira Lake, a Ramsar-listed wetland in Sant Kabir Nagar, as an eco-tourism destination. Along with this, work is underway to strengthen education, healthcare and skill-development infrastructure in the area.

With religious sites, improved connectivity and tourism projects being developed together, Tameshwarnath Dham could become part of Uttar Pradesh’s wider temple tourism circuit in the coming years.
