Authorities have asked travellers showing symptoms of the virus to immediately report to airport health officials for screening.
The notice, titled “Attention: Passengers arriving from or transiting through affected countries”, aimed at travellers coming directly from Ebola-affected nations or those who passed through these countries while travelling to India.

The advisory comes after the Union Health Ministry held a high-level meeting with the states to review India’s preparedness against the Ebola outbreak reported in parts of Africa.
“Passengers who have travelled from countries reporting Ebola disease and are experiencing any of the symptoms must take immediate action,” the advisory read. The symptoms, mentioned in the advisory, are fever, weakness or fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, unexplained bleeding or sore throat.
The authorities have also asked passengers who had direct contact with blood or body fluids of a person suspected/confirmed to have Ebola disease must immediately report to the airport health officer or health desk before immigration clearance.
The advisory also states, “Any traveller developing the symptoms within 21 days of arrival should immediately seek medical care and inform healthcare authorities about their travel history.”
Officials said no Ebola case has been detected in India so far, but surveillance at airports has been increased as a precautionary step.
“Please cooperate with health screening and public health measures in the interest of passenger safety and International Health Regulations (IHR),” the advisory read.
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), “As of May 19, a total of 536 suspected cases, 105 probable cases, 34 confirmed cases, and 134 suspected deaths have been reported by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.”
In the last 24 to 48 hours, 26 new confirmed cases and 143 new suspected cases were identified.
