Coloured hair needs more love and care during the monsoon season. Here are simple tips that will help you retain the vibrancy and also maintain your hair health.

Weekly deep treatments help restore shine and softness.
The monsoon might bring relief from the heat, but it’s far from kind to colour-treated hair. Frizz, fading, dullness, and scalp sensitivity become the norm, thanks to constant humidity and frequent washes. But it’s not all gloom. With a few smart swaps and consistent care, your coloured mane can stay vibrant and healthy even through the stickiest months of the year.
“Coloured hair needs special care in the monsoon, especially because sweat, pollution and rainwater can be incredibly harsh on the scalp and cuticle,” says Ritu Vijavergiya, Co-Founder of 2.Oh!
Rethink Your Shampoo Strategy
Washing your hair more often in the monsoon is inevitable, but not all cleansers are created equal. The trick lies in choosing a shampoo that’s gentle yet effective. “Look for formulas that are pH balanced (around 4.5) and designed specifically for colour protection,” advises Vijavergiya.
Ingredients like Glycerin help with scalp sensitivity thanks to their antimicrobial benefits, while Argan Oil provides deep nourishment. Shampoos using a Tri-surfactant system cleanse gently, helping remove sweat and sebum without stripping away colour pigments.
Build Your Monsoon Hair Arsenal
Your two best friends this season? A gentle colour-safe shampoo and a lightweight leave-in conditioner. “Leave-in products with Panthenol help maintain cuticle integrity and form a barrier against humidity,” says Vijavergiya. This combination works to retain internal moisture and prevent external frizz, essential for keeping colour looking fresh.
Pick the Right Pigments
When it comes to colour itself, smart choices go a long way. “Deep, rich tones like bordeaux, hazelnut, or violet tend to fade less and wear better during the monsoon,” she explains. Pastel and lighter shades tend to bleed faster under frequent washes.
Also, consider semi-permanent colours instead of permanent ones if you’re going in for a touch-up. They don’t open the cuticle as aggressively, reducing long-term damage and preserving hair strength.
Make Hair Rituals a Habit
Cleansing and conditioning are important – but don’t skip weekly deep treatments. Masks that contain Behentrimonium Chloride and Argan Oil can repair damage and restore shine and softness. “Treat your hair like fabric: handle it gently and nourish it deeply,” Vijavergiya adds.
And don’t forget the basics: avoid tying up wet hair, rinse out rainwater as soon as possible, and drink plenty of water. Healthy hair retains colour better, after all.
