How recent wage hike put India’s NCR T&A sector to test



As per reports, what began as wage protests in Manesar in the Indian state of Haryana soon rippled across Gautam Buddh Nagar and key industrial clusters, including Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, which collectively power a substantial share of India’s manufacturing, including readymade garments.

While wages may have sparked the unrest, the ramifications run considerably deeper. After the neighbouring state of Haryana increased wages by ** per cent, a high-level committee set up by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has reportedly approved an interim increase of around ** per cent in minimum wages for workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad.
