The special train, which was recently extended up to Katra from Banihal with effect from February 11, now offers enhanced passenger amenities, railway officials said. The move is part of the Jammu Division’s efforts to upgrade travel facilities for both local residents and tourists.

The Vistadome coach is fitted with wide glass windows and a transparent roof, allowing passengers to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including mountains, rivers, valleys and tunnels along the route. The design enables travellers to experience the scenery while remaining seated inside the coach.
Passenger facilities in the Jammu Division have also been enhanced through the extension of special train numbers 04688 and 04687 from Budgam to Katra, replacing their earlier termination at Banihal. Railway officials said the change aims to improve connectivity for residents and expand travel options for visitors.
Principal Chief Commercial Manager of Northern Railway, Parveen Panday, said the introduction of the Vistadome coach would help promote tourism and improve the overall travel experience. Speaking to ANI, Panday said, “There are several stations here where road connectivity is not good… This will provide them with a good facility… This will also boost tourism… During snowfall, Kashmir used to get cut off, facilities couldn’t reach there, people couldn’t reach there, but this time not only did we transport passengers there but we also delivered a substantial amount of goods there… A Vistadome coach has been attached to this train. It is open on all sides so that people feel like they are in the midst of nature. People will have a very good experience in it…”
